Our Story
In 2016, the tragic preventable passing of a family member highlighted a critical issue: vital health information often doesn’t reach those who need it most, particularly in communities where English is not a first language.
Motivated by this, we led a group of high school and university students to TranslateKnowledge, an initiative to address the lack of health awareness and health information accessibility in culturally and linguistically diverse communities who have traditionally been marginalized. We started by translating essential health information into Punjabi, providing clear, accessible instructions and health education to a community deeply in need. Since then, we’ve expanded our model to incorporate multiple languages to serve the diverse members that make up our communities.
Our efforts go beyond translation. We work within our communities to connect with members through health awareness events, collaboration with community-based organizations and accessible online resources. This helps us educate and engage with community members in relevant and accessible ways.
At TranslateKnowledge, we are dedicated to overcoming the cultural and linguistic barriers in accessing health information in our communities and hope to improve the holistic wellbeing of the communities we serve.
